"Smilehood and Other Stories" is an imaginative personal reflection dealing with themes of identity and the idea of place. Artist Tiffany Baker in her first solo show, delivers a snapshot of intimate past moments, rediscovered and reimagined for present day through paintings, 
drawings and archive material.

Tiffany's bio briefly:

Chicago native and artist, Tiffany Baker resides in Brooklyn and spends her days creating digital illustrations as a Senior Designer at CNNMoney. Her designs have gone to receive both the Investigative Journalism NACA and RTDNA Personal Finance awards.

Since graduating from Pratt Institute with a Bachelor’s of Industrial Design, Tiffany has continued to use her art to tell stories about the world that surrounds her.

Daniel Stevens

Daniel Stevens has a new website DAS DESIGN and it is a remarkable site filled with many of Daniels graphics, illustrations, patterns and more - work that I have been watching him lovingly and passionately generating over the past few years. He's been a busy man. 

Daniel notes on his site;

Founder Daniel Allen Stevens has 10 years of professional experience as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator. He's loaned his creative talents to the toy industry, home decor industry and apparel industry.

Zac Feltoon Design, LLC - Kivvit

Zac Feltoon has been busy!

Now, as; Zac Feltoon Design, LLC - he and his team have recently completed a beautiful interior
design project for Kivvit - a top, national public affairs firm. He's also updated and fine tuning his new website (click above or on image to link). This newly completed project shows a diverse range of powerful strengths in interior design, furniture design, project management, and associated architectural and contracting coordination issues. Congratulations Zac, this is a very fine space, lovely layout, beautiful furniture design, and that conference table is contract-furniture worthy for production! Congratulations Zac! Looking forward to seeing more work in the near future!

Scope: Interior Design, Furniture Design, Sourcing & Procurement, Project Management

Kivvit, a top national public affairs strategy firm, approached us to design their new headquarters in Lower Manhattan that would represent their brand as a sleek, thoughtful, and focused firm. After scoping out the project and understanding the nature of how the Kivvit teams are adept at transitioning between working independently and in groups, we agreed on an open plan that would take advantage of the natural height of their new office space, but maintain existing conference rooms and work rooms for private meetings, calls, and impromptu strategy sessions. As part of the design development, we made sure to take ownership of their newly minted master brand color, affectionately dubbed: Kivvit Gold.

We went through many iterations of the layout for the space, making sure that with such a paired down construction timeframe, and a tight construction budget, that we would maximize effort by re-purposing existing architectural hardware such as the glass sliding doors, ceiling-mounted IT wire routing baskets, and limiting the amount of floor-channeling to the essential locations of the two East-side conference rooms.

Ryan Rutherford

Ryan Rutherford, Pratt alum., continues to be a fantastic crossover designer/artist/fabricator/manufacturer consultant of illuminating ability.

Some time before Christmas Ryan sent out an update - I meant to put it up, but have not dusted off this blog for quite some time. My apologies to Ryan and all. Before he posted this; It's that time of year. Old Chris M. Asstree is out and about. I received (and so may you have) an email from Ryan to his general fans. I asked him if he wouldn't mind - maybe he minds now that it's three months later! Hope not. Here it is: "How are you? Did you know i was still alive... and making things? I hope you're all doing well.      I've successfully made the transition in to full time product development and manufacturing consulting and I've been really busy this year with client work and a few large scale personal projects. I do have a lot of new products under my belt that you'll be able to run out to the store and pick up soon, unfortunately i can't tell you about them until they launch. I'm also working on a new website that will incorporate a portfolio of my professional product development work as well as a new store and blog to share more of my process.      Although this is all very exciting news it is not my primary reason for clogging up your inbox.      In august I participated in the "No Toon Left Behind" show at Suburban Vinyl in Waldwick, NJ. I had a lot of fun creating the attached custom piece that incorporated some of my normal process but went far beyond my typical solutions in customization and decoration. The piece is called "You Can't Take It With You" and features a  skull inspired by Scrooge Mcduck, floating over a stack of doubloons under a large, heavyweight glass cloche. The piece is approximately 10" tall by 7" in diameter.      The base sculpt for the skull was done with traditional materials and tools and then cast in silicone for reproduction as hollow, rotocast, polyurethane. The polyurethane is tinted to a bone color and once cured it is then hand carved and detailed to add cavities and fracture details. The beak is painted and top coated with a gloss to create a material contrast between the dry finish of the bone and then the entire piece is aged with a stain and dry brushing process. The top-hat is hand cut, heat formed and  assembled from sheet plastic. The dome is a high quality, heavy weight, scientific grade bell jar. The glasses are real metal frames with glass lenses. The doubloons are a combination of plated plastic coins and real metal replicas. The base is hand cut wood under a therm-o-formed polystyrene sheet.       Needless to say this is significantly more work than i put in to my typical resin products. The piece sold at the show but i have gotten several requests for more pieces. Due to the amount of work and the cost of sourced materials I am not interested in doing these in my typical run size but i am willing to open this up to an edition of 10.  If you would like to purchase 1 of the 10 pieces for $750 please email me at Brutherford@Brutherford.com to reserve your piece. Linda Hsiao - Knotwork LA

I recently saw an image passing through FB and was startled by the beauty of it.
Linda Hsiao, Pratt ID alum. had posted a moment and image of that moment. Her post read:

"Nothing like fresh camomile tea and shelling some dragon beans and black eyed peas from a trip to Sundays Hollywood farmers market with @mtwashingtonpottery . Going to hang the camomile after a few more cups of fresh tea☕️ before bed."

Linda is an industrial designer, ceramicist, gardener, and chef. While not knotworking she freelance designs eyewear and accessories. Her desire for more beautiful kitchen tools and gifts for her nephew are the inspiration for many of Knotwork’s products

Kagan is an architect, woodworker, and teacher of design and craft. He is one half of the Highland Park design/build firmKnowhow Shop LA and an obsessive collector of tools and techniques.

Knotwork LA was created as a outlet to identify the work we do in our spare time, it began as evenings and weekends spent in the shop and studio, precious pieces of wood saved from other projects or found while hiking, ideas that came to us in the middle of the night, and a desire to create beautiful, useful things.

Classes, Studio, Wood-craft, Ceramics, Lifestyle design & this week a Knotwork Pop-Up at MOCA in LA.

I never had the pleasure of having Linda in one of my classes at Pratt, but I am very happy to see a Pratt ID alum taking this path. I believe Linda is working as an eyewear designer and Knotwork is her personal exploration of bringing her passion to life in commerce and education.
